I worked for 25 years as a newspaper, radio/TV and wire service news and sports reporter and editor in several major media markets, including Baltimore, Chicago, Tampa/St. Petersburg and Washington, D.C.
My background includes serving as the sports editor of one weekly newspaper and assistant sports editor of another and a daily newspaper in northern Virginia; covering the athletic programs at George Mason University for eight years and later the U.S. Naval Academy; the Washington Capitals; Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and National Football League for The Associated Press and United Press International.
I also covered local and state government; federal, municipal and state courts; emerging technology; business and politics.
After leaving the industry in July of 2001, I was a public school educator for eight years before retiring in 2015.
For the past 10 years I have served as a media consultant and data manager for a variety of non-profit organizations and political campaigns.
A Michigander by birth, I have lived in eight states – including both peninsulas of my native state – but have called Chicago home since 1998.
